Philip T. Ninan, MD

Dr. Ninan is an Affiliate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University since 2012. Previously, he was a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia (1983-2006). From 2006 to 2012 he was a Vice President in Neuroscience, initially at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (Global Medical Affairs) and subsequently at Pfizer (Clinical Sciences).
Dr. Ninan received his medical degree from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. He immigrated to the U.S. and completed his postdoctoral training in psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston. He was a medical staff fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health in Bethesda, MD.
Dr. Ninan is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has authored over a hundred peer reviewed scientific articles focusing largely on anxiety and mood disorders. In the past he chaired the Treatment Assessment Review Committee of the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Ninan created the Scale for Anxiety & Depression.
